Women's lacrosse wins season opener

ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels kicked off their 2025 season with a 12-9 win against the Methodist Monarchs on Sunday. Senior Makenna Bowens led with five points coming from three goals and two assists.

Mariah Butler and Anna Ramsden also made three goals, with Ramsden adding an assist as well. Jersey Cuni scored two goals and Savannah Freeman had one. Goalkeeper Tori Perez made 10 saves after facing 19 shots. Ramsden, Ellis Mitchum and Sarah Liang each recovered three ground balls.

Methodist opened with a 2-0 lead which was broken by back-to-back goals from Butler. The Monarchs found a last-second goal to end the first quarter back in the lead, but the Petrels kept up their energy. Cuni quickly scored at the top of the second quarter thanks to an assist from Ramsden. The score would tie two more times before halftime, with the Monarchs refusing to give up the advantage they created in the first quarter.

Oglethorpe dominated the third quarter, with the only goals coming from Ramsden, Bowens and Cuni. The comeback continued into the final quarter, spearheaded by Ramsden and fueled by Bowens and Freeman. Combined with goalkeeping from Perez, a great second half earned the Petrels a 12-9 win to kick off a bright season.
