ROME, Ga.—Oglethorpe's baseball team took a seven-game winning streak into Southern Athletic Association play Friday afternoon at Berry but was handed a pair of losses, 18-8 and 23-11, to start the three-game set.
Isaiah Pou led the Stormy Petrels in the opener of the series with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, including an RBI single in Oglethorpe's six-run seventh inning. However, it was not enough to overcome the Berry lead which came mostly from a big fourth inning.
Oglethorpe bounced back from the game-one loss with an early lead in game two, but another big inning from Berry put the Vikings into the lead for good. Mason Pearcy swung the lead in the top of the second with a two-run homer to give Oglethorpe a 2-1 lead.
It was 3-1 moments later when Brick Conway came home to score on an error, but multiple runs from the Vikings in the second through sixth inning helped Berry seal the win.
Drew Jabaley and Trey Kinnan led Oglethorpe in game two, going 3-for-4 and 3-for-5, respectively. Jabaley had two doubles and two runs. Jaxson Corr (2-for-3) also posted multiple hits at the plate.
