Petrels rally late to take Berry finale

ROME, Ga.—A 10-run eighth inning helped the Oglethorpe baseball team erase a late deficit and run away with an 18-10 win Sunday in the finale of a three-game Southern Athletic Association series against Berry.

The Stormy Petrels sent 14 batters to the plate in the pivotal eighth inning. Among them, Trey Kinnan and Isaiah Pou were both 2-for-2 in the inning while Mason Pearcy had the game-tying RBI single and Aiden Hosford drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Petrels the lead. The inning also featured an RBI single through the left side from Shane Newsome, a three-RBI double to left-center field from Jaxson Corr, and a two-run dinger from Pou.

Pou's home run, his third of the season, capped off the scoring.

Oglethorpe's big eighth inning came after the Petrels and Vikings traded blows through the first six innings. Oglethorpe took the early lead with two runs in the first, then Berry responded with two in the third only to have Oglethorpe bounce back into a 6-2 lead with four runs in the fourth.

Berry then surged into the lead with four in the fifth and three in the sixth. It was 9-8, Berry, heading to the eighth when Oglethorpe ran away with the win.
