Oglethorpe beaten by Buffalo State

ATLANTA – In a brief break from Southern Athletic Association play, the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 12-11 to the Buffalo State Bengals on Tuesday.

Anna Ramsden led with six goals, tying her career high. Anna Conza and Makenna Bowens followed with two goals apiece, plus two assists and three draw controls by Bowens. Amber Fuentes won five draw controls, a season high, while Conza and Savannah Freeman made three ground balls each.

Bowens scored the first goal very early thanks to an assist from Conza. Jersey Cuni scored later in the first period, kicking off a string of goals for the Petrels. Ramsden and Conza added to what would become a 4-0 lead.

Buffalo State scored their first goal late in the first quarter, but took most of the second quarter to become a threat. Oglethorpe held on to the lead until halftime, but the tables turned in the third period.

The Bengals scored first after halftime, got interrupted by a goal from Ramsden, then scored three in a row. This streak put Buffalo State up 8-7, but not for long. Ramsden scored back-to-back, then the Bengals did the same. Conza scored again to reach a 10-10 tie, but Buffalo State found a last second goal. The high tension of the fourth period allowed Ramsden to get another free-position goal, resulting in an 11-11 tie that held for most of the period. The final quarter seemed to be deadlocked and heading toward overtime until the Bengals found a goal with just a minute left on the clock. The Petrels could not find another goal and fell 12-11 to Buffalo State.
