ATLANTA—A three-hit day for both Jonathan Cruz and Cooper Krause led the Oglethorpe baseball team to a narrow 6-5 win Friday night against Husson. It was the opener of a three-game home series and marked the Stormy Petrels' fifth straight win.
Husson, in its season opener, held leads of 1-0 and 3-1, the latter in the middle of the fifth inning, but a four-run sixth propelled the Petrels into the lead for good.
Trey Kinnan had an RBI single to open the scoring in the sixth inning on a play that tied the game 3-3. Two pitches later, Krause had a two-RBI double to give Oglethorpe a 5-3 lead.
Husson cut into the lead with a two-run homer in the seventh, but Dylan Quintilio closed the final door on the visiting Eagles, pitching two scoreless and hitless frames to pick up his third save.
Freshman Konner Burrell, who came in to relieve starting pitcher Will Lumpkin in the fifth, earned the win, the first of his career, after going two innings and striking out two.
Oglethorpe and Husson finish the series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
