ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels celebrated senior day as they faced Rhodes Saturday afternoon but fell 17-15 to the Lynx after a lengthy battle.
Before the game began, Oglethorpe celebrated this year's four graduating seniors: Amber Fuentes, Makenna Bowens, Tori Perez and Amaya Johnson.
Bowens led with eight goals. Anna Ramsden followed with three goals, then Anna Conza with two. Fuentes had five ground balls and Perez made 13 saves.
Oglethorpe started off strong with two unanswered goals by Bowens. The Lynx quickly found their footing, but the Petrels held their ground and ended the first period still up 5-4.
Bowens opened the second period with two more unanswered goals. Rhodes found three goals in a row to tie things at 7-7, the first of many ties in the game. This time, Oglethorpe was able to pull back ahead thanks to goals from Camryn Fowler, Jersey Cuni and Ramsden.
Oglethorpe was up 10-8 at halftime, but Rhodes ran away with the third quarter. The Lynx scored four goals in a row to finally find what they thought was a solid lead. Heavy-hitter Bowens struck again, scoring three in a row. The agitated Lynx leveled things out at 13-13 to end the period.
Rhodes garnered the advantage once again at the start of the fourth, as two-point leads were a clear motif. Ramsden and Conza made stealthy goals in an attempt to break down the Lynx, but Rhodes got the last tally. Oglethorpe fell 17-15 in the final home game of the season.
