ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels celebrated senior night with a 24-0 win and some new records against the Warren Wilson Owls.
The Petrels set the new program record for ground balls in a single game, getting 77. The previous record of 75 was set in 2020.
Joshua Tamarkin led with season highs of five goals and five assists. Matthew Cobley also scored a season high five goals, followed by Dwayne Taylor with career highs of four goals and six ground balls. Michael Fox scored two goals, won 12 faceoffs, made two assists and picked up 10 ground balls. Xay Duax made 10 saves for the shutout.
Tamarkin, Israel Pendleton-Moore and Taylor combined for a quick 3-0 run to get the game going. The Owls were able to take a few shots, all saved by Duax. Cobley, Noah Stroud and Aniedo Udoh added goals later in the period, giving Oglethorpe a hefty 7-0 lead.
Cobley and Tamarkin kicked off the second quarter with back-to-back goals, stunning Warren Wilson even further. Oglethorpe soared through the period, racking up an 18-0 lead with little pushback.
Scoring slowed in the second half of the game, but the Petrels were still in full control. Taylor got the game to a 20-point lead, and Oglethorpe began to show mercy. The only goal of the final quarter was from senior Matthew Kwon, scoring the first goal of his career for the 24-0 win.
