JACKSON, Miss.—Despite holding early leads in games two and three of the series, Oglethorpe suffered a three-game Southern Athletic Association sweep to Millsaps Friday and Saturday on the road. Oglethorpe lost 10-4, 12-9 and 8-6 to fall to 15-12 (3-6 SAA) on the season.
Game One Summary
The middle to late innings proved to be the difference in each game. A scoreless game one quickly turned into a 7-0 lead for Millsaps when the Majors plated two in the fourth and five in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Oglethorpe rallied with three in the seventh after back-to-back jacks from Nick Tarantino and Drew Jabaley, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Game Two Summary
Game two of the series saw Oglethorpe take a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first, and even after Millsaps swung that lead with six in the bottom half, the Stormy Petrels went back out on top with five in the top of the second thanks to a grand slam from Isaiah Pou.
Oglethorpe led 8-7, but another costly middle inning, this one coming in the form of four runs in the fifth, turned the lead upside down.
Game Three Summary
Having lost the series and trailing two games to none, Oglethorpe looked to bounce back by taking the finale and avoiding the sweep until seven runs from Millsaps across the fifth, sixth and seventh decided the game.
The Petrels were up 5-1 thanks to a dinger from Jonathan Cruz in the first and a two-RBI single from Ryan Causey in the third. However, Millsaps charged into the lead with two in the fifth, another two in the sixth to tie, and three in the seventh to go into the lead for good.
A Causey eighth-inning homer make it 8-6 but rounded out the scoring for both teams.
