ATLANTA—Despite a late goal from Nick Krull which gave the Oglethorpe men's soccer team a spark in the closing minutes, the Stormy Petrels fell 2-1 to Covenant in their 2025 season opener Friday evening at Emory.
Covenant got out to a 2-0 lead after the first tally in the 39th minute and second tally in the 53rd minute. Krull then gave the Petrels some late life with his first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute, making it 2-1. Owen VanMarter had the assist, but the goal would be too late as the Petrels fell in their opener for the first time since 2021.
Krull led the Petrels in shots with four, while Christian Watson and VanMarter both tallied three.
Sebastian Lewis tended the net all 90 minutes and made four saves, also in his debut.
