MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels were defeated 3-0 by the Huntingdon Hawks after another tough road match Wednesday evening.
Ella Hughes led with eight kills followed by Gracie Sims with five. Aubrey Hill made seven digs and Abby Wheeler had six. Autumn Lilly made 15 assists.
Huntingdon dominated the first set, earning a three-point lead right off the bat. The Hawks took the Petrels by surprise and ended the set 25-16.
Oglethorpe earned the first point of the second set thanks to an error by the Hawks, but Huntingdon quickly made up for it by taking a 5-1 lead. Two aces from Madison Williams plus more errors from Huntingdon tied things up at 5-5, but the Hawks pulled away again.
Oglethorpe found another run toward the end of the set with aces from Hill and more Hawk errors, but it was not enough as the Petrels came up four points short.Â
Huntingdon continued aggressive offense in the third set, wearing down the Petrels to 25-17 for the final set.

- Hill's seven digs were a career high for the sophomore.

- Oglethorpe made 27 digs compared to Huntingdon's 38.

The Stormy Petrels will hit the road once again, heading to Maryville for round robin play including Warren Wilson and Berea. Their first match will be against Maryville on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. then the Petrels will have a doubleheader the next day. Oglethorpe's first home game is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, against Millsaps at 11 a.m. and will also serve as the Southern Athletic Association opener.
