MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels fell 3-0 to the Maryville Scots in another tough road match Friday evening.
Freshman Alise Mayers made nine kills and Madison Williams added seven alongside only one error. Abby Wheeler made three service aces and 15 digs. Autumn Lilly had 18 assists and eight digs.
Oglethorpe earned the first three points of the match thanks to a kill from Williams and ace by Lilly, plus a Maryville error. The Petrels held a decent lead in the first set with kills from Mayers and Camdyn George, but the Scots found multiple ties, then pulled away at the end.
Maryville also took the lead in the second set, with pushback from the Petrels. A streak of kills from Mayers, Lilly and Gracie Sims put Oglethorpe up 16-5, but the Scots found a run of their own. The Petrels fought to keep up but set two fell to Maryville 25-19.
The third set was similar to the second, with Oglethorpe battling for an edge but Maryville taking it. The final set also ended 25-19, resulting in a 3-0 loss for Oglethorpe.

The Stormy Petrels remain at Maryville to take on Warren Wilson Saturday morning. Oglethorpe will also face Berea later in the day. Finally, the first home match is on the horizon as Oglethorpe hosts Millsaps on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m.
