Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Petrels answer early, clip Hawks 4-1

ATLANTA—Gustavo Canas had an equalizing goal in just the sixth minute before the Oglethorpe men's soccer team poured it on with a 4-1 win over Huntingdon Tuesday night in the home opener and first win of the season for the Stormy Petrels.

The game saw four goal scorers and three new Petrels to get into the scoring column on the young season as Oglethorpe moved its record to 1-1-1 overall after the first three contests.

Huntingdon had a quick goal to get the scoring going in just the third minute, but Canas and the Petrels answered back and had little doubt the rest of the way. Canas's goal came from close range as he finished off a cross pass from Owen VanMarter inside the six-yard box. Stanlee Etienne also was credited with an assist as he found VanMarter open on the right side for the goal-scoring opportunity.

Angelo Nkosi gave the Petrels the lead less than 25 minutes later with his first tally of the season, assisted by Ethan Martinez.

VanMarter then had a spectacular goal in the 38th minute to make it 3-1. Kaden Greenfield had the assist on a long crossing pass that found VanMarter open near the top of the penalty area. VanMarter played one touch off his chest, then blasted his second goal of the season off the inside of the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Shama Shasha rounded out the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 50th minute. This one started on a set play as a free kick from Martinez connected with Shasha inside the penalty area, and Shasha buried it home for his first goal of the season.
