Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Story by Abby Wheeler

Stormy Petrels bounce back with strong win over Talladega

ATLANTA- Emma Perkins got the scoring going in the 22nd minute with a goal that opened the floodgates for a commanding 6-0 win for Oglethorpe's women's soccer team over Talladega Friday night.

The Stormy Petrels started the game hot with two early shots from Allyssa Hearn and Ashley Flores. Shortly after a second shot from Flores, Gabbi Plaia delivered a beautiful ball from the far post to Flores who placed the ball for Perkins to tap the ball in for the first goal of the night in the 21st minute.

The offensive pressure stayed with Oglethorpe as they continued to drive down the field. With this momentum in the 28th minute, Malia Smith gave a through ball to the penalty box where Delaney Hanks scored on a wide-open shot, increasing the score to 2-0.

Hanks followed that goal up with another strong shot along with Evan Thomas. From there, Caylen Loftin ran the ball into the box, passed short to Thomas, who delivered to Rowan Gross in a perfect scoring position. Gross geared back and took a strong shot from the top of the penalty box that soared past the Tornadoes back line moving the score to 3-0 in the 39th minute.

The Petrels were clearly hungry for more because shortly after in the 44th minute, Loftin found Izzy Aurelia at the top of the goalie box who passed to Smith for the fourth goal of the night. In the first half, the Petrels stunned the Tornadoes, completely outshooting them 15-1.

Myleigh Oglesby began the second half with a shot that set the tone of offensive pressure for the rest of the game. With a miskick from Talladega and patient defensive waiting from Hanks, she was able to recover the ball and make a shot on goal that soared into the corner of the net to put the fifth goal on the board making it 5-0 in the 61st minute.

An aggressive foul from the Tornadoes put Oglesby at the penalty kick mark to take her shot. Beating the goalie wide to the right, the Petrels advanced the score to 6-0. This seemed to kickstart fire for Talladega with a shot, but was no match for Grace Elsevier, who stepped in to keep it a shutout. With one more shot from Gross and Loftin and an additional save from Elsevier, the Petrels defeat the Tornadoes.
