ATLANTA- Ethan Martinez set the tone for the Oglethorpe men's soccer team against North Carolina Wesleyan University early with a goal scored in the 13th minute. Despite the electric start, the Stormy Petrels fell 2-1 to the Battling Bishops. The game marked the conclusion to the 2025 John P. Salamone Invitational.
After the goal scored by Martinez in the early first half, the possession switched around the 20th minute. The Battling Bishops took three shots on goal in the span of 10 minutes but goalkeeper Sebastian Lewis contained them, racking up two saves in the first half.
In the second half, the pressure came from both teams but in the 62nd minute, North Carolina Wesleyan had an equalizing goal. Despite three more saves from Lewis, in the 85th minute the Battling Bishops scored to take the lead.
Martinez led the team in shots with three while Anthony Rouse, Jackson Biggs and Jake Duncan-Smith all tallied one.
