Petrels blow by Colonels for second SAA win in a row

ATLANTA- After a huge win in the Southern Athletic Association on Friday, the Oglethorpe women's basketball team picked up a massive 90-66 win over the Centre College Colonels in Dorough Field House handing them their first conference loss of the season. This marked Oglethorpe's sixth win at home this season, moving them to 6-2 on the blacktop.

Malia Melton had a huge night recording a double-double with 18 points, a season high, and 10 rebounds. She also led the team in assists with three. Keimarya Rivera led the team in points tallying 21 and recorded her sixth double-double this season.

The Petrels, spearheaded by Rivera, Melton and Anna Conza, created a strong lead to begin the half. A 3-pointer by Briley Elder gave the Petrels a 28-16 lead. Winfrey drained a 3-pointer of her own followed by a layup in the paint from Foster. The Colonels attempted to crawl back but were not successful as the half ended with the Petrels up by three.

Melton was such a vital part to the Petrel success in the second half scoring 12 of her 18 points in one half. Shooting 10-13 of their field goals in the fourth quarter, the Petrels gained a 29-point lead, the largest of the game, to keep the Colonels at bay.
