ATLANTA- Behind a near career high from Keimarya Rivera, the Oglethorpe women's basketball team defeated Rhodes College 84-73 on Friday in Dorough Field House.
This victory defended the team's four-game home winning streak and brought their fourth Southern Athletic Association win placing them third in the league.
Rivera led the box score, tallying 32 points, two shy from tying her career high. Marlie Battle followed with 14 points and led the team in steals recording seven. Anna Conza and Sheraton Foster both posted double digit points. Malia Melton led the team on the glass with 12 rebounds.
The tone was set quick as the first point of the game was a 3-point shot from Conza. An early lead by the Petrels caused the Lynx to be desperate for a minimized deficit, leading Rhodes to go on a 9-0 run to take an 11-point lead to a two-point lead. The Petrels and Lynx were tied at the half 34-34.
A 10-0 run by Rivera, Battle and Briley Elder broke open the lead for the Petrels, and they never looked back. Shots in the paint by Rivera pushed the lead to 56-48, giving Oglethorpe room to work. Late shots by Foster sealed the 84-73 victory for Oglethorpe.
