SAN ANTONIO - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels began the bulk of Southern Athletic Association play this weekend with the No. 24 Trinity Tigers, resulting in a 102-74 loss Friday night.
Jackson Kemp put up 16 points plus a career high 13 rebounds. Kam Stone followed with a career high 15 points , then Carter Watkins with 14 points and three assists. Andrew LaVigne had five rebounds, and Anderson Sheperd had a career high four rebounds.
LaVigne hit a 3-pointer right out of the gate, which Trinity quickly copied. Oglethorpe managed to hold the lead for the first few minutes, but the Tigers moved in fast. Malachi Dooley sank two free throws at the end of the first period, but Trinity led 45-31.
The Tigers strengthened their lead in the beginning of the second period and prevented the Petrels from scoring for two minutes. Dooley finally broke through their defense, then J. Kemp. Oglethorpe managed to find a few small runs during the period, but Trinity had already amassed a decent lead. The Tigers went on a major run in the final minutes, forming the 102-74 loss for the Petrels.

- Oglethorpe and Berry began conference play well before any other SAA members, with the Petrels picking up a win against Berry back in early December.
- The Tigers are new to the SAA, and the last time Oglethorpe faced Trinity was in 2018.Â
