SAN ANTONIO- Strong defensive efforts from the Oglethorpe men's soccer team kept the Trinity Tigers at bay, but an early goal from Trinity resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Petrels Sunday afternoon on the road.
Despite Trinity outshooting the Petrels 16-5, a combined goalkeeping effort from Sebastian Lewis and Edelis Varela tallied six saves and only allowed one goal. Lewis and Varela both recorded a shot as well, Varela's being a near equalizer from close range in the final seconds of play.
In the eighth minute of regulation, Eduardo Parra put the Tigers on the board 1-0 after two quick passes and a great shot despite efforts from Lewis. Nick Krull responded quickly with a shot of his own yet missed out the top of the goal.
The second half remained much of the same. The Tigers controlled possession, and the Petrels worked to climb back. Despite shots from Ethan Martinez and Mason Regan, the Tigers outlasted the Petrels and Oglethorpe fell 1-0 to close out a road weekend of Southern Athletic Association competition.
