ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels defeated the Piedmont Lions 2-0 to send off this year's eight graduating seniors Sunday night.
Before the game, eight graduating seniors were recognized and received their framed lettermen's O: Lily Burford, Emma Perkins, Ana Williams, Jasmine Cardenas, Gabi Plaia, Delaney Hanks, Evan Thomas and Lauren Byers.
Thomas and Ella Nuzum were the goal scorers of the night, with Hanks and Mikayla Stuart on the assists. Katherine Crim made five saves.
Thomas scored in the first five minutes of the game as she and Stuart worked hand-in-hand to distract Piedmont's defense before going in for the kill. The Lions were only allowed to take one shot during the entire first period, which was saved by Crim. Oglethorpe's next goal came in the last fifteen seconds of the period. The attack started with Thomas and Abigail Zerm, then Hanks helped Nuzum seal the deal.
Piedmont gave the Petrels a couple of scares in the second half, but never scored. Oglethorpe made several attempts to add a third goal, but the Lions kept these contained. The Petrels ended senior night with the 2-0 win.
