Thomas leads in spectacular win over Scots

ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels claimed a spectacular 4-0 over the Maryville Scots in a crucial Southern Athletic Association matchup Friday night.

Senior Evan Thomas led with two goals, while Jasmine Cardenas and Marlie Sikora made goals of their own. Katherine Crim made eight saves.

Cardenas' first goal of her career came rather early in the match, with an assist from Rowan Gross. This was the only goal of the first period, but the Petrels really put on the pressure in the second half.

The next goal belonged to Thomas at the top of period, with assists by Cardenas and Gross. This was also Cardenas' first assist of the season. Using the excitement to her advantage, Thomas soon scored again. The last goal of the game still had 10 minutes on the clock, with Sikora and Mikayla Stuart tackling Maryville's defense this time. Myleigh Oglesby took several shots throughout the game and ended the action with one last attempt to strengthen Oglethorpe's lead.

Winning the match was crucial to stay in the SAA tournament, especially after Maryville's upset at Trinity this week, but the Stormy Petrels kept their cool to grab the impressive 4-0 win.

  • This was Sikora's second goal of the season.
