DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.—For the third time in the last four years, the No. 10 Oglethorpe men's golf team took home the hardware at the West Pines Collegiate, winning the event by 12 strokes Tuesday afternoon at West Pines Golf Club. Freshmen Reid Korody and Ryan Gallagher and sophomore Barton Abstein made the all-tournament team.
The Stormy Petrels opened the tournament in dominating fashion and never let up. Gallagher, competing as an individual, tied the program record for 18-hole score relative to stroke on Monday's second round with his blistering 8 under 63 that featured a course record 29 on the back nine and a chip-in for eagle to finish his round. Meanwhile, the team set the 36-hole scoring record for par 71 with a two-round combined 545 on Monday, putting the Petrels 23 under and giving them a 15-stroke lead after day one.
It was more of the same on day two, as Korody (68-68-70) and Gallagher (70-63-73) both competed for medalist honors over the last 18 holes, eventually settling in as runners-up just two strokes off the individual lead. Abstein (69-68-70) finished close behind in fourth overall after moving up three spots on day two.
Seniors Jackson Hiller (68-68-74) and Ryan Dunn (69-67-77) rounded out the Oglethorpe scoring in seventh and 15th, respectively. As a team, the Petrels shot 274-271-290 to win the event for the first time since 2024 when they won it back-to-back. The 2023 team, which featured both Hiller and Dunn as freshmen, earned a 23-stroke win. The 2024 team, which featured Hiller, Dunn and Corbin Scott, won by five strokes, with Hiller taking medalist honors at 5 under par.
The field at this year's West Pines event was another strong one. No. 20 Babson and No. 24 Shenandoah were in the mix, as well as four others near the national top 25. Southern Athletic Association members Berry, Centre and Rhodes also were present.
Oglethorpe B Team
Scott led the Petrels B team, firing 75-66-75 to take 24th overall. His middle round 66 featured five birdies and an eagle and propelled him into the top 20 after day one. Ethan Breth (76-68-73), Robert Wrobley (75-71-73) and Diego Passos (75-73-71) also competed on the B team, helping the squad take eighth on the team leaderboard.
