ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe men's soccer team celebrated senior day Sunday in front of its home crowd, but a first-half goal from Sewanee sent the Stormy Petrels to a 1-0 loss to end the regular season.
It was a tightly contested affair with the difference ultimately coming via a corner kick from Sewanee's Luke Manley that found Thomas McGowan for a header in the 34th minute.
Oglethorpe was outshot 10-7, and the only shot on goal from either team was the one that found the back of the net. Sewanee also had the advantage on corner kicks at 6-4.
Up next, Oglethorpe earned the No. 6 seed for the upcoming Southern Athletic Association tournament, which it will host beginning Thursday, Nov. 5. The Petrels' first game will be Thursday at 6 p.m. against Berry.
