Stormy Petrels dominate SAA leader Trinity on senior night

ATLANTA- Oglethorpe's women's basketball team dominated Southern Athletic Association leader Trinity University 85-70 on senior night Friday in Dorough Field House. The Petrels upset the SAA's No. 1 ranked team after honoring three seniors, Sheraton Foster, Malia Melton and Keimarya Rivera.

Rivera led the box score with 25 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks, her second straight and ninth double-double of the season. Jaden Winfrey followed with 14 points and went 3-4 from the 3-point line.

Oglethorpe was on the board first, but Trinity quickly responded. A back and forth first half led to the score tying five times.

An 11-7 run helped pull the Petrels out of a two-point deficit to a comfortable 35-27 lead made possible by 3-point shots by Anna Conza, Jaden Winfrey and Malia Melton late in the first half.

The Tigers did not stop the battle out of halftime and tied the score 43-43. The Petrels found a second wind and pulled away after an 11-4 run, getting four different scorers involved.

In the back half, Oglethorpe scored 14 points in just four minutes to diminish the energy of the Tigers. Briley Elder scored six, Rivera tallied four, Marlie Battle and Foster recorded two. This run sealed the win as the Petrels never looked back and maintained their lead, outlasting the Tigers for an intense 85-70 senior night win.
