ATLANTA- The Oglethorpe women's basketball team defeated Southwestern 80-65 at home in Dorough Field House to close out the home regular season for the 2025-26 season.
Sheraton Foster led the team with 23 points, four rebounds and one steal. Malia Melton followed close behind tallying 20 points and four rebounds. Keimarya Rivera tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
A nail-biting first half began with Foster getting the Petrels on board first. The Pirates responded quickly and went on an 11-4 run. Two back-to-back 3-pointers from Melton minimized the Pirates' lead to put the Petrels in a five-point deficit going into the second half.
Back and forth scoring led by Foster and Melton pushed the Petrels to minimize the deficit and tie the game at 36-36. Brooke Herdman picked up a crucial steal to give the Petrels a wind of momentum. Then, an 11-7 run in three minutes of action sealed the victory for the Petrels, putting them up 65-59.
Late performances from Melton and Rivera along with a last minute 3-pointer from Foster defeated the Pirates with a final score of 80-65.
