Rivera sets SAA all-time scoring record in road win

MEMPHIS—With just under one minute to go in the third quarter of a two-point game versus Rhodes Thursday evening on the road, Oglethorpe senior Keimarya Rivera scored a tough shot under the basket to become the Southern Athletic Association's all-time leading scorer. Those two of her 1,708 career points tied the game, and the forward from Canton, Georgia, finished with eight more points in the fourth quarter to lead the Stormy Petrels to a 73-60 win.

A tremendous four-year career for the senior allowed her to break such a momentous milestone in her career and the SAA in the last weekend of the 2025-26 regular season. The previous record of 1,698, set by Sewanee's Bella Taylor in 2019, held for seven years until Rivera broke through with a 472-point final season that is still counting.

After the record breaking shot from Rivera, the momentum seemed to affect the Petrels as they pushed for a dominant 11-0 run to break away from the Lynx late in the second half. Marlie Battle knocked in five, Rivera tallied four and Aliyah Shaffer scored two to solidify the win. A final layup from Shaffer ended the game 73-60 as the Lynx ran out of time to recover.

In the first half, an early 8-0 run set the offensive tone for the Petrels with Anna Conza scoring five points and Sheraton Foster tallying three. Back and forth through the remainder of the first half let the Oglethorpe defense go to work tallying 31 rebounds and three steals in just one half of regulation.

Game Notes

  • Rivera finished with 23 points on 10-for-19 shooting alongside seven rebounds.
  • Battle recorded 18 points, six rebounds and five assists.
  • Conza tallied 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • Foster led the team in steals with four.
  • This was the fourth win in a row over Rhodes College.
  • It was also Oglethorpe's third win in a row, propelling them to fourth in the SAA heading into the final game of the regular season.

Rivera's Record

  • Rivera's 472 points this season ranks tied for seventh on Oglethorpe's all-time single-season scoring list.
  • Rivera put up 382 points her freshman year, ranking third all-time at Oglethorpe for scoring by a first-year player. She followed with 408 and 446 in her sophomore and junior seasons.
  • Rivera is one of only two players in the 14-year history of the SAA to reach 1,550 points. Sewanee's Taylor has 1,698 while Emilee Olsen of Birmingham Southern ranks third at 1,542 career points. Only seven players have ever reached 1,500 points.
  • Savannah LeGate (1,381/2022) and Lauren Ransom (1,295/2019) are Oglethorpe's next scorers on the SAA all-time scoring list, ranking 11th and 12th.
