Big win helps Petrels establish lead in Greensboro series

ATLANTA – The Oglethorpe University baseball team faced off against Greensboro College in a dominant showing, securing a decisive 12-2 victory Friday evening. The Stormy Petrels controlled the game offensively and defensively, capitalizing on timely hitting and strong pitching to overwhelm Greensboro from start to finish.

Oglethorpe started strong, racking up runs early and keeping constant pressure on Greensboro's pitching staff. The Petrels tallied 16 hits on the afternoon, including three doubles, one triple and two home runs.

Ryan Causey provided the biggest spark, launching two home runs and driving in six RBIs to give Oglethorpe an early cushion. By the middle innings, the Petrels had firmly seized momentum and never looked back.

Despite Greensboro managing eight hits and leaving nine runners on base, Oglethorpe's pitching staff rose to the occasion. Tate Henderson delivered a steady performance on the mound, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing no runs while striking out six, including several key batters in critical situations.

Hunter Lovett came in relief to close out the contest, helping preserve the commanding lead. The Petrels limited Greensboro to just two runs while holding them without an extra-base hit.

Offensively, Oglethorpe showcased depth throughout the lineup. C. Eidam recorded three hits and scored three runs, adding a double to his stat line. Kaden Stephenson contributed with a double and a triple, finishing with one RBI, while Maddox Husband and Aiden Hosford each added an RBI to round out the scoring effort.

The team drew five walks and struck out just three times, demonstrating discipline at the plate. Defensively, Oglethorpe finished with 21 putouts and six assists, committing two errors in the field. The combination of strong pitching, aggressive offense and consistent fielding propelled the Stormy Petrels to a convincing 12-2 win, highlighted by Causey's standout six-RBI performance and a balanced team effort across the board.
