Petrels topped by Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels suffered a tough 95-68 loss at the hand of the Sewanee Tigers Friday night in a Southern Athletic Association road game.

Malachi Dooley led with 20 points and Carter Watkins followed with 12. Kam Stone made 10 points while Jackson Kemp had seven rebounds and four steals. Mason Kemp made six rebounds.

The first half was rough for the Petrels, with the Tigers outscoring them 52-26. This 30-point deficit made for an incredibly difficult second half, which began with a layup from Dooley. Oglethorpe was unable to find any major runs with Sewanee's tight defense.

On paper, the teams seemed more evenly matched in the second period with the Tigers only outscoring Oglethorpe by one point in the end. But again, that major deficit from the first half hung over the team. The Petrels finished strong with layups from James McGriff and Anderson Shepherd but ultimately fell 95-68.

Game Notes

  • Brevin Klym made his first steal and assist of the season.
  • Freshman Cooper Colvin sank the first free throw of his career.
  • McGriff recorded a career high for points.
  • Shepherd made the first block of his collegiate career.
