Petrels take down Panthers for second win of season

ATLANTA – Oglethorpe University defeated LaGrange College 14–12 Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.

On the offensive side, Gannon Johnson delivered a standout performance with seven goals, leading all scorers. Peyton Knowles followed with an impressive five goals, while Noah Stroud and TJ Lewis each added a goal to round out the Petrels' scoring. Alexander Martelo Reyes contributed two assists and Henry Adams added another as Oglethorpe totaled 14 goals on the day.

At faceoff, Gabe Hunter controlled possession for the Petrels, winning 16 of 25 draws, helping Oglethorpe maintain offensive pressure throughout the contest.

In goal, Wyatt Desaussure played the full 60 minutes and recorded 12 saves. Desaussure came up with several key stops late in the game, preventing LaGrange from closing the gap during the final stretch. Defensively, Daniel Carpenter led the team with five caused turnovers, while Jerald Spoto added three and Martelo Reyes chipped in two to disrupt LaGrange's attack.

Oglethorpe opened the game with strong offensive pressure, outshooting LaGrange early and establishing possession behind Hunter's faceoff wins. Johnson and Knowles combined to pace the offense in the opening period as the Petrels built momentum and carried the lead through the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Oglethorpe continue its balanced attack. Stroud added a goal while Johnson and Knowles kept the offense moving, helping the Petrels maintain their advantage heading into halftime.

After the break, LaGrange pushed back offensively with a strong third quarter, but Johnson continued to lead the scoring effort while Knowles added key goals to keep Oglethorpe in front. The Petrels matched LaGrange's surge and entered the final quarter with the lead intact.

In the fourth quarter, Oglethorpe relied on timely possessions and strong defensive play to close out the game. Desaussure made several important saves late to prevent a comeback attempt, while the Petrels' offense continued to pressure the LaGrange defense. Oglethorpe held on through the final minutes to secure the 14–12 victory.
