MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Oglethorpe University men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 1-0 victory Tuesday over Huntingdon College on the road.
Mason Reagan scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute while Edelis Varela posted a shutout and recorded two saves.
The Petrels controlled the possession in the first half, posting seven shots to the Hawks' two. Nicholas Lulu and Addofo El Bey nearly put the Petrels on the board in the 15th minute, but both shots were controlled by Huntingdon.
Four consecutive shots from Lulu, Nick Krull, Gustavo Canas and Sawyer Lee set the tone for the offense in the second half. Huntingdon returned the offense with a shot on goal, but it was stopped by Varela.
Lulu took a shot from outside the box that was deflected off the cross bar and not recovered. Reagan headed the loose ball to the bottom corner to put Oglethorpe up 1-0 and secure the victory.
