ATLANTA- Goals by Nathan Leveque and Nick Krull brought the Oglethorpe University men's soccer team a 2-0 victory Friday night against McMurry. It marked the team's fourth win of the season and the start of the annual John P. Salamone Memorial Invitational.
Sebastian Lewis tallied two saves for his second shutout of the season. Christian Watson, Eli Beard, Alex Watson, Kenny Griffin, and Leveque all took two shots and Brice Screws, Angelo Nkosi and Lucas Brown added one.
Leveque got the Petrels on the board early by driving the ball down to a one on one with the keeper and chipping it over his head into the net for a goal in the 22nd minute. Sawyer Lee was credited with the assist on a great pass from the right side connecting with Leveque for the goal-scoring chance.
With the Petrels leading 1-0, the dominating possession continued through the first half with the Petrels taking eight shots to the War Hawks' five.
McMurry began the second half with fire, taking three shots in the first 10 minutes. Krull returned the pressure by shooting a long ball from outside the box to soar past McMurry's keeper and into the upper side of the net, securing the 2-0 lead for the Petrels in the 74th minute.
Oglethorpe maintained possession through the entire back half of the game and picked up their second home win of the season.
