Brittney Hughes joined the women’s lacrosse program at Oglethorpe University in the fall of 2017. Hughes served as the head coach on an interim basis during the 2018 season and was named full-time head coach in 2019. Most recently, Hughes was named Oglethorpe's athletics diversity and inclusion designee in the fall of 2020.
While the 2019-20 season was cut short due to COVID-19, the women’s lacrosse team was off to a record start. The program finished with a 4-2 record, the best start in program history, and secured a major conference win against Hendrix. Under her leadership, Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse has made two SAA playoff appearances, named five players to an All-SAA team, one to the SAA Sigma Alpha Alpha List, 39 to the SAA Academic Honor Roll, four to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll and 21 to the Oglethorpe University Dean’s List.
Hughes joined the program as an assistant coach in the fall of 2017, and has been involved with all aspects of the game over the last decade, including playing, coaching and officiating. Hughes coached club teams at Hotlanta Lacrosse for six years, as well as running all aspects of the Kennesaw State women's lacrosse club team from 2011 through 2016, serving as the head coach and team president. She is also the president of the Southeastern Women's Lacrosse League, an organization that includes 16 collegiate club teams, and served previously as the league's vice president for three years. Hughes has also worked as a high school official and is a Level 1 instructor in the U.S. Lacrosse Coaching Development Program.
She graduated from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor's degree in public relations and a minor in coaching. Hughes is currently working to obtain her Master of Arts in sports management, with a concentration in athletic administration and compliance, from Wingate University.
