The day after a stirring comeback resulted in their fifth
straight win, the Oglethorpe baseball team looked a little flat all
day in a 14-7 home loss to LaGrange.
The Petrels fell behind 7-0 and had only three hits through the
first five innings before getting the bats going. They scored six
runs over the next two innings, but LaGrange added five more in the
top of the sixth, effectively putting the Petrels out of the game.
Oglethorpe finished with 12 hits, but LaGrange tallied 18 of
them.
From an individual standpoint, shortstop Matthew Cornwell played
well for the Petrels, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and
two runs scored. Center fielder Brendan Pilger also played well,
going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored and two stolen
bases. The two stolen bases make Pilger a perfect 10-for-10 on the
year in the category.
Mark Hoban picked up the loss for the Petrels, dropping to 1-1
on the year. He went four innings, allowing seven hits, six runs
(all earned) and a walk, striking out four.
The loss drops the Petrels to 6-2 on the young season. They will
now have a few days off before returning to action Saturday against
Johnson & Wales. First pitch will be at 2 p.m. from Anderson
Field.
