The Oglethorpe University baseball team fell to Maryville
College in Tennessee on Sunday evening, 10-1. The Scots plated
three runs in the first two innings and held the Petrels off the
scoreboard until the top of the ninth to cruise to the victory.
Maryville ace R. Brown pitched seven and a third strong innings
to raise his record to 4-0 on the season. He managed to flummox the
Petrels throughout the contest and retired 23 of the 26 batters he
faced.
Oglethorpe plated their only run courtesy of a Joe Parillo
sacrifice fly in the ninth that scored senior Matt Anderson. The
Petrels only managed six hits on the afternoon and no player
recorded a multi-hit game.
The win by the Scots allowed them to claim the season
series over the Diamond Petrels by claiming two of the three
contests.
At 9-3 on the season, Oglethorpe is back in action this Tuesday
at 6:00 p.m. when they face Atlanta Christian on Anderson Field.
