The Oglethorpe baseball team was routed by Piedmont on Tuesday
night, 26-3.
The Petrels stayed in the game for the first three innings. They
fell behind 4-0, but were able to score two runs in the bottom of
the third. J.J. Rizzo hit an RBI double to pull the game to within
three, and then Andy Farrey followed with an RBI single to cut the
Piedmont lead in half.
However, Piedmont scored four runs in the next inning and was
off to the races. They scored eight runs in the ninth, and 15 runs
over the last three innings. They tallied 24 hits to go with their
26 runs.
John Gibbs suffered the loss for the Petrels, dropping to 3-2 on
the year. He gave up three earned runs on four hits over three
innings.
The loss dropped the Petrels to 16-14 on the year. They will
travel across town to take on rival Emory Wednesday at 3 p.m.
before traveling to Centre for this weekend's big SCAC series.
