Box Score

The Oglethorpe baseball team scored early and often en route to defeating Arcadia, 17-7, Monday night at Anderson Field. The Petrels outhit the visiting Knights 16-7, and had 20 men reach base safely in the contest.

The big inning for Oglethorpe came in the third. The Petrels scored eight runs on four hits in the inning, and watched Arcadia commit four errors to help the cause along.

The Petrels started off with a bang in the first inning. Center fielder Jeff Pope hit a leadoff home run, the first long ball of his career. Left fielder Brendan Pilger then followed with a solo shot of his own, and Oglethorpe was off and running, 2-0.

After the big inning, the Petrels expanded their lead even further with three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings. Pilger hit another home run in the fifth, this one a two-run shot.

Oglethorpe then endured a six-run eighth against the back of their bullpen, but were still able to come away with the 10-run victory.

Pilger went 2-for-3 with two home runs, a walk, three RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored, continuing his assault on opposing pitching. Pope was 3-for-5 with his aforementioned first career home run, two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored. First baseman Adam Brazenas was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Emmett Goodman had an excellent start on the hill, picking up his second win of the season to advance to 2-0. He threw five innings and allowed only one run on two hits, walking four. Neal Amos and Jonathan Joseph had hitless outings out of the bullpen.

With the win, the Petrels improve to 6-7 on the year. They will be in action again Tuesday afternoon down in College Park, where they will take on Atlanta Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
