Baseball Opens Season with 8-0 Loss at Huntingdon

Box Score

The Oglethorpe baseball team opened its season Friday night in Montgomery, Ala., and came away with an 8-0 loss to open a three-game weekend series with Huntingdon.

The Petrels managed just two hits over the course of the game, but were still in the game in the eighth inning, down just 3-0. However, a five-run eighth inning put the game away for the home-standing Hawks, and they cruised to the 8-0 victory.

The Petrels did get an excellent start from senior Emmett Goodman. He pitched seven innings and allowed just three runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out five. Unfortunately, he was saddled with the tough-luck loss, as the lineup couldn't get anything going.

Senior right fielder Nick Manai and senior catcher Jeff Brothers provided the two hits for the Petrels, who didn't have a man advance past second base over the course of the game.

The Petrels will be in Montgomery the rest of the weekend, as they will complete their three-game series with the Hawks with single games at 2 p.m. Eastern on Saturday and Sunday.
