SANDESTIN, Fla.— Oglethorpe senior Michael O'Sullivan carded rounds of 68-69-70 to total 6 under par for 54 holes and claim the individual title at the Golfweek Division III Invitational on Tuesday. This finish marked O'Sullivan's first collegiate win and lowest cumulative tournament score. O'Sullivan played the par threes at 3 under par, par fours at 1 under par, and par fives at 2 under par.
As a team, No. 11 Oglethorpe moved up to second place. This is a very respectable finish in a highly competitive field of 24 teams. The Stormy Petrels beat eight teams that are ranked above them on the GolfStat NCAA Division III rankings.
Senior Tripp Murphy had the second-best finish for the Petrels. Murphy finished T15 at 4 over par after carding rounds of 73-71-73. After the final round, Murphy moved up 10 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Beck Lewis shot 75-71-73 to finish T24. All three of Lewis' rounds counted toward the team score. Sophomore Sam Karman contributed a final round 79 to the team score. Freshman Thomas Reininger finished inside the top 50 at T47 and carded 72-70-80.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe finished top three for the tournament in par 3 and par 4 scoring
- The Petrels also were tied for second with 173 total pars
- They were ninth with 38 birdies
- O'Sullivan was second at 3 under on the par 3's and tied for fourth alongside Murphy at 1 under on the par 4's
- O'Sullivan played 2 under and Lewis played 1 under on the par 5's
- O'Sullivan's 40 pars ranked fourth in the field while his 10 birdies ranked 11th in the field
- Lewis, Reininger and Murphy all hit 36 pars
