ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels had a successful senior night with a 44-35 win over the Hendrix College Warriors.
Â
Before the game, seniors Taylor Smith, Sydnee Jackson, Nikki Reed, Sydni Donovan and Maya Inman were specially introduced and honored. These five have been assets to the Stormy Petrels each season they have played, and will continue to lead the team for the remainder of the season.Â
Â
There were nine Petrels in the scoring column this game, as Donovan led with a total of 11.
 Â
The first quarter was tight, and ended with Hendrix on top at 12-10. But the Petrels took off in the second quarter with a 7-3 run to solidify the lead they would hold for the rest of the game.Â
 Â
Coming out of halftime with the score at 25-18, the Petrels continued to dominate throughout the third quarter. Although Oglethorpe turned quiet on the offensive end, the Petrels stepped up the defense and ended the quarter on top at 38-26.
Â
The fourth quarter was tense when the score stayed at 42-35 for over five minutes. Once Hendrix broke that, it seemed as though they were gaining on the Petrels. That is, until Oglethorpe scored twice in the last 40 seconds for a final score of 44-35.Â
"Defense won the game tonight," said Head Coach Alex Richey. "I thought we did as good a job executing a scout and game plan as we have done all season which is so important this time of year. It's always awesome to win on senior night and thankful for our five that we recognized prior to the game for their contributions to our program throughout their careers. It is something they'll remember forever, and I'm glad it will be with a smile after getting a win."Â
Â
Donovan's stat line included 11 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks, two assists and two steals. It marked her third double-double of the season and sixth of her career. Daesha McAdams came next in the scoring column with nine, and Inman posted 10 rebounds alongside six points and four steals.

The next women's basketball game is another home game in Dorough Field House on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. against Rhodes College.
