ATLANTA—Anna Ramsden picked an excellent time to tally the 30th goal of her freshman season, sending the Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team to an 18-17 overtime victory over Sewanee on Saturday with a golden goal 49 seconds into the extra period.
Ramsden and Makenna Bowens led the Stormy Petrels with four goals apiece in a game that featured tremendous comebacks from both teams through the first four quarters. Oglethorpe in fact had a 17-15 lead after a goal from Sydney Trammell with less than 50 seconds left in regulation before Sewanee promptly tied the game with two draw control wins followed by quick strikes.
Matters were made worse and nearly ended terribly before the Petrels came up with a couple of huge stops in the last 10 seconds, denying Sewanee on a pair of free position attempts that would have won the game.
To counter the end of regulation, Oglethorpe refocused, Bowens winning the draw control and Ramsden scoring the winner shortly after.
Oglethorpe opened the game with the first four goals before Sewanee battled back to make it 6-5 in their favor. The Tigers then built a lead of 11-7 in the third quarter only to see the Petrels storm back into their own lead at 15-13.
Behind Ramsden and Bowens, Kendall White and Trammell followed with three goals apiece. Ally Moir and Kaitlynn Alford both scored twice.
