ATLANTA—An 11-2 run to start the second quarter followed by a 15-0 run to finish the second quarter helped the Oglethorpe women's basketball team soar past visiting Agnes Scott 88-63 Tuesday night inside Dorough Field House.
Briley Elder was the first of six Stormy Petrels in double figures for scoring in the win, leading the way with 15 points on 5-of-11 perimeter shooting.
Agnes Scott hung around for the first quarter, managing to keep it a one-point game with a basket as time expired to end the first 10 minutes. However, Elder caught fire to begin the second quarter, knocking down three straight triples to push Oglethorpe to a comfortable lead.
Agnes Scott hit a three of its own midway through the second quarter that made it 32-27, but it started a scoreless draught for the Scotties, who gave up 15 unanswered to send Oglethorpe into the half ahead 47-27. Four Petrels accounted for scoring during the stretch, including six points from Montana Harris and a big three from Mia Geveke that gave Oglethorpe its first 20-point lead of the game in the waning seconds of the half.
Oglethorpe (3-2) kept it a 20-point game the entire second half and even expanded the lead to as many as 27 in the fourth quarter.
