Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Several Petrels step up in double OT senior-night win

ATLANTA—Career high scoring for Malia Melton and Anna Conza, plus career high rebounding for Keimarya Rivera, was the recipe for a 97-92 double-overtime victory the Oglethorpe women's basketball team posted over visiting Sewanee Friday night in an instant classic inside Dorough Field House.

Melton scored 24 points, including a pair of free throws that tied the game with under two seconds in regulation to help force the first overtime. She added a career high six assists and blocked two shots. Conza posted 14 points and a career high-tying six rebounds. Rivera scored 22 alongside a whopping 17 rebounds, six blocked shots and five steals. Her rebounds, blocks and steals all marked career highs.

It was a game that was all about runs, and Oglethorpe started the final overtime period with the first seven points. Four of these came off baskets from Briley Elder, then Jessamy Gaetanos knocked down a huge three to put the Stormy Petrels ahead 90-83.

Fitting the theme of runs, Sewanee scratched back with a 7-2 run to set up a 92-90 game with under one minute left. Morgan Skipper then stepped up in a big way with a triple from the wing to put the game away for good. Oglethorpe made a stop on the next possession, then finished the game at the free-throw line.
