Petrels headed to SAA tournament on high note

ATLANTA—A come-from-behind walk-off victory to even the series followed by a big win in the rubber game last weekend against Rhodes has the Oglethorpe baseball team heading to the Southern Athletic Association tournament on a high note.

Oglethorpe is set to travel to Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas, for a three-game series over the upcoming weekend.

Tournament Schedule

  • Oglethorpe and Hendrix will play a three-game series to determine who will advance to the next stage. The loser of the series ends its season.
  • With the forecast of rain, the most up-to-date game times and locations can be found on Oglethorpe's schedule page, linked above.
  • If games one and two of the series are split, teams will play a third game to decide the series. All games are scheduled for nine innings.

Upon Advancement

  • If the Stormy Petrels advance, they will join the three other series winners in a double-elimination tournament May 2-4 at the highest remaining seed.
  • The conference champion will be determined by the winner of the postseason tournament.
  • The champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA championship.

Season Notes

  • Oglethorpe finished the regular season 16-22 (10-11 SAA). The conference record was good for the five seed, two games behind Hendrix as the four seed.
  • Oglethorpe won series this year against national-No. 4 Birmingham Southern, Millsaps and Rhodes.
  • Two of the series losses came by way of losing the rubber game in extra innings. The Petrels lost to Centre in the 12th and Sewanee in the 11th, both in game three after splitting the first two.
  • Oglethorpe swept Millsaps three games to none.
