SANDESTIN, Fla.—Led by freshman Dounia Bezzari's fifth-place effort, the Oglethorpe women's golf team posted another top 10 finish this week at the Golfweek Fall Invitational. Bezzari was only three strokes off medalist honors, firing 74-71-74 with a middle round of 1 under par.
Bezzari held third overall after Monday's second round where she posted four birdies and a 1 under par effort on the back nine, in fact finishing 2 under over the last 10 holes. She followed that up with four birdies again Tuesday, again finishing strong with a 1 under across the last seven holes.
McKazlyn Payne (76-78-76) and Elizabeth Powell (79-76-76) followed Bezzari in 27th and 30th, respectively. Both moved up several spots on the final day thanks to finishing the tournament with their best rounds.
As a team, Oglethorpe (318-304-304) was just five strokes out of a fifth-place finish and moved up two spots after the first round and one spot after the second round.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe finished fourth in par 5 scoring at 9 over. The Petrels were seventh overall with 29 birdies.
- Bezzari finished fourth in par 5 scoring at 4 under and seventh in par 4 scoring at 5 over. Powell was eighth overall in par 5 scoring at 2 under.
- Bezzari's 11 birdies ranked second overall, while Payne posted eight birdies which landed her 16th in that category.
- Oglethorpe has now posted top-eight finishes in all three events of the season so far. Each competition has been in highly competitive fields with many of the nation's top 25 programs in attendance.
