ATLANTA- Delaney Hanks, assisted by Harlow Cregar, set the dominant tone for the Oglethorpe women's soccer team in a 6-0 victory over the Huntington Hawks on Sunday.
A well-placed free kick outside the penalty box by Cregar in the second minute set Hanks up to finish the play for the first goal of the game. The Hawks responded swiftly with a shot but it was saved by Katherine Crim. Dynamic teamwork from Caylen Loftin and Myleigh Oglesby allowed for the second goal of the game for Hanks, as a pair of quick passes near the top of the box found Hanks who made it 2-0.
The second half began with three dominant shots by Alyssa Hearn. After more offensive pressure from the Petrels, Oglesby gave Izzy Aurelia a great through ball in the 61st minute to score the third goal of the day.
The pressure only amped up from there as another goal, this time by Oglesby in the 70th minute, made it 4-0. Huntingdon began to increase their pressure, but Grace Elsevier had a great save that kept the Hawks at bay.
Ashley Flores delivered a pass to Evan Thomas who overtook two defenders to make the score for the Petrels 5-0. Hungry for more, Thomas responded quickly within the next minute with help from Cregar for the sixth goal of the day.
