MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Freshmen Dounia Bezzari and McKazlyn Payne finished seventh and 16th, respectively, as the Oglethorpe women's golf team claimed its second-straight top-five finish at the Montgomery Women's Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The event took place across Monday and Tuesday at Montgomery Country Club, with the Stormy Petrels putting forward another outstanding effort.
Bezzari and Payne both posted back-to-back competitive rounds of 74-77 and 78-79, with Bezzari sitting in the top five after the first 18 holes. Bezzari had two birdies on each round while Payne had two birdies on Monday's round.
Following the freshman pair were Elizabeth Powell (19th), Abrianna Carstens (28th) and Macie Stefano (47th) who combined to drop 17 strokes on the second day. Powell carded a 78 on day two while Carstens' day-two score was only two strokes back of that at 80. Powell led the field in par 3 scoring at 1 under.
Oglethorpe (317-314) finished fifth, only 16 strokes out of the top three. Madison Davis competed as an individual for the Petrels and finished in the top 40 at 37th overall.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe finished fifth in par 3 scoring, fourth in par 4 scoring, and sixth in par 5 scoring.
- The team's 97 pars ranked second only to Washington and Lee's 100 pars.
- Oglethorpe ranked sixth in birdies with 11.
- Powell ranked atop the individual leaderboard in par 3 scoring at 1 under par, tied with two others for the lead.
- Bezzari ranked fifth in par 4 scoring and fourth for total pars with 23 pars.
- Payne ranked one spot behind Bezzari in pars with 22 for the 36-hole event.

Oglethorpe has two more events left on the fall slate, beginning next with the Golfweek Fall Invitational Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 12-14. The event is scheduled for 54 holes in Sandestin, Florida.
