LEXINGTON, Ky.—Senior Elizabeth Powell took seventh overall, freshman Dounia Bezzari took 14th, and Oglethorpe claimed fifth at the Transylvania Women's Golf Kickoff Classic Monday to open the 2025-26 season. Hosted by Transylvania, the event took place Sunday and Monday at University of Kentucky's Big Blue Course.
Powell, who had an eagle on the par 5 No. 15 hole on day one, shot 76-73 for a 3 over par effort, carding an even par 73 to finish the event on a high note. Freshman McKazlyn Payne and junior Abrianna Carstens also finished on high notes, improving their scores from day one to day two to shoot 77 and 79, respectively, over round two.
Bezzari, another freshman, posted two competitive scores of 76-77 to finish inside the top 15 at 14th overall. Payne and Carstens followed in 23rd and 26th.
Sophomore Madison Davis and freshman Macie Stefano led the Oglethorpe B team, both finishing 30th overall.
The Stormy Petrels finished as a team only one stroke back of fourth and nine strokes back of third while having a commanding advantage of 41 strokes over the rest of the field behind them. Powell and Bezzari both led Oglethorpe at 3 over par after the first 18 holes of the event and the season, then Powell's even par led the way on day two, while Bezzari and Payne were both 4 over on day two.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe finished fourth in the field on the par 3's, shooting 15 over which was only five strokes off the lead.
- Powell was seventh on par 3 scoring and fifth on par 5 scoring. She shot 1 over on the par 3's and even par on the par 5's.
- Powell also was 10th overall with four birdies and seventh overall with 23 pars.
- Powell's eagle was the second of her career in collegiate tournament play. Her first came in 2023 at the MCC Intercollegiate.
