ATLANTA - The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels finished the regular season with a 19-4 home win against the Southwestern Pirates on Friday. The win secured Oglethorpe's spot in this year's Southern Athletic Association tournament.Â

Goalie Madelyn Gardner made nine saves and Ellis Mitchum had three caused turnovers and won six draw controls. Anna Conza made four assists and won five draw controls, while Sarah Liang had four ground balls and one assist.

Southwestern achieved the first goal of the second quarter, but the Stormy Petrels continued to dominate with multiple saves by Gardner plus goals from Butler, Ramsden and Atiba. The latter scored with just five seconds on the clock thanks to an assist from Mitchum. Oglethorpe headed into halftime up 11-2, one of their biggest SAA leads this season.
Ramsden scored again at the top of the third quarter, followed by Southwestern's only goal for the quarter. Freeman and Butler continued to add goals for the Petrels, and Ramsden ended the period on a man-up goal with an assist from Conza.Â
Freeman and Mitchum got to a 15-point lead at the beginning of the final quarter, then the Pirates scored their final goal. Scoring was much slower at this point, as the Petrels finally took the gas pedal off the floor.
