Baseball heading to SAA tournament this week in Rome

ATLANTA—The Oglethorpe baseball team hits the road for the Southern Athletic Association tournament this weekend in Rome, Georgia. The Stormy Petrels finished the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth after winning five of seven SAA series, ultimately landing the No. 5 seed.

Tournament Information

  • Location: AdventHealth Stadium in Rome, Ga.
  • Format: Double Elimination
  • First Game: Thursday, May 7, at 1:15 p.m. vs. Centre in the second game of the day
  • With a Win: Advances to face either top-seeded Trinity or No. 2-seeded Rhodes in the third or fourth game of Thursday.

Oglethorpe's opening-round matchup will give the team a great opportunity for redemption as the Petrels were swept by Centre in a three-game road set during the regular season. The Colonels and Lynx of Rhodes were the only two teams to win their series against Oglethorpe this year.

A loss Thursday would send Oglethorpe to the losers bracket to face the loser of Thursday's first game between Berry and Sewanee.

The SAA championship game is set for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. A repeat, "if necessary," game of the two teams competing for the title would be Sunday at 12 p.m. if neither team has suffered its second loss.
