Fox named interim head coach for Oglethorpe cross country/track & field

ATLANTA—Oglethorpe University and Director of Athletics Todd Brooks have named Margaret Fox interim head coach for the Stormy Petrel cross country/track & field program. Fox follows former head coach Kari Elliott after serving as Elliott's top assistant for each of the last two seasons.

Fox is a former Canadian Olympian, NCAA Division I national champion and multitime all-NCAA American and Junior Pan American Games bronze medalist.

"I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to promote one of our very own," Brooks said. "Margaret Fox has been instrumental in the growth and success of our cross country and track & field teams over the past several years. Not only is she a gifted coach, but she was also an accomplished student-athlete in her own right. Her significant experience as a student-athlete proves extremely beneficial as she mentors the young people who participate on our teams. I know she will be able to continue advancing our program in a positive direction."

Fox's role as assistant coach over the last three seasons has seen her highly involved in the development of the track & field program, during which time the team has achieved unprecedented success. She helped guide Keri Edwards to an NCAA all-America honor in the indoor triple jump in 2026 before helping lead freshman Zeno Goss to an NCAA qualifier in his debut season during the last week of this season.

"I am honored to be named the interim head coach for the cross country and track & field teams," Fox said. "Thank you to Todd Brooks and Dr. Raimondo for trusting me to lead this program. I look forward to guiding each student-athlete in maximizing their potential and continuing the upward trajectory of the program. I am grateful for this opportunity and eager to get to work."

In her three seasons with Oglethorpe, Fox coached 10 athletes to break program records in 22 events. She also led athletes to 11 Southern Athletic Association all-conference honors, including one who won the SAA title with a conference record in the 400 meters.

Prior to Oglethorpe, Fox served as assistant high school and middle school sprint coach at Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia, from 2014 to 2024. She also served on staff at University of Nebraska as assistant track & field recruiting coordinator from 2002 to 2004 where she organized and led over 100 recruiting visits per year.

Fox has also been self employed as a private nutrition consultant and is working toward her USATF Level I certification.

Fox qualified for the Olympics in 2000 after an outstanding track career at Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she won the NCAA title in the 4x400-meter relay and was a three-time all-American in the 4x400 and distance medley relays. This followed her winning the Junior Pan American Games bronze medal in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash in 1995.

Fox graduated from Rice in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science before finishing her graduate work at Nebraska in 2004 with a Master of Science in nutrition. She is a member of Rice's Athletics Hall of Fame.
