The Oglethorpe baseball team first felt the disappointment of
hearing that they wouldn't be able to play at Coolray Field, then
felt the disappointment of losing to Denison 16-5 Saturday
afternoon.
In a game, that was moved from Coolray Field, the home of the
Gwinnett Braves, to their home field at Hermance Stadium because of
wet grounds, the Petrels gave up 10 runs in the first two innings
and were never really in the game.
The big blow came in the second, a grand slam which would give
the visiting Big Red their 10-run lead. It was one of two grand
slams Denison would slug on the afternoon.
The only sustained rally the Petrels were able to pull together
was in the ninth inning, after the game had already been decided.
Stephen Archer hit a three-run homer in that inning to cut the
Denison lead to 16-5, but that was the end of the scoring.
The loss drops the Petrels to 10-4 on the year. They will next
be in action Sunday afternoon. They will host Montclair State, with
first pitch set for 2 p.m.
